EN 55011:2009 Indus­trial, sci­en­tific and med­ical equip­ment– Radio-​frequency dis­tur­bance char­ac­ter­is­tics Lim­its and meth­ods of mea­sure­ment

Scope
Inter­na­tional stan­dard EN 55011:2009 is applic­a­ble to:

  • indus­trial, sci­en­tific and med­ical (ISM) equip­ment. The fre­quency range of ISM equip­ment shall not exceed 400GHz;
  • house­hold equip­ment and sim­i­lar equip­ment designed to gen­er­ate and/​or use locally radio-​frequency energy;


Clas­si­fi­ca­tion
Inter­na­tional stan­dard EN 55011:2009 sep­a­rates all equip­ment in two groups– Group 1 and Group 2, each group is sub­di­vided in two classes– class 1 and class 2.

Group 1- cov­ers all devices that are not cov­ered by group 2.
Group 2- cov­ers devices that inten­tion­ally gen­er­ates RF energy in fre­quency range 9kHz-​400GHz, that is used in form elec­tro­mag­netic radi­a­tion, induc­tive cou­pling, capac­i­tive cou­pling for mate­r­ial analy­sis or inspec­tion.
Class A- cov­ers devices for usage in all estab­lish­ments other than domes­tic and that are not directly con­nected to a low volt­age power sup­ply net­work, which sup­plies domes­tic envi­ron­ment.
Class B- cov­ers devices for usage in domes­tic estab­lish­ments that are directly con­nected to a low volt­age power sup­ply net­work, which sup­plies domes­tic envi­ron­ment.

If class A require­ments are applied, then fol­low­ing or sim­i­lar warn­ing shall be included in the instruc­tions for use:
Warn­ing

This is a class A prod­uct. In a domes­tic envi­ron­ment this prod­uct may cause radio inter­fer­ence in which case the user may be required to take ade­quate measures.


Exam­ples
Group 1– Med­ical, sci­en­tific, lab­o­ra­tory, indus­trial elec­tro heat­ing, indus­trial process mea­sure­ment and con­trol, semi­con­duc­tor man­u­fac­tur­ing equip­ment, machine tools, Indus­trial induc­tion heat­ing equip­ment that do not exceed 9kHz.
Group 2– Dielec­tric heat­ing equip­ment, microwave ovens, med­ical equip­ment, elec­tric weld­ing equip­ment, demon­stra­tion mod­els for edu­ca­tion and train­ing, induc­tion heat­ing equip­ment that exceeds 9 kHz.

Require­ments
Con­ducted emis­sion require­ments for mains ports and telecom­mu­ni­ca­tion ports must be met in fre­quency range 150kHz-​30MHz.
Radi­ated emis­sion require­ments must be met in fre­quency rage 30MHz-​1GHz.
