Electromagnetic compatibility testing in EMC lab EN 55011, CISPR 11
EN 55011:2009 Industrial, scientific and medical equipment– Radio-frequency disturbance characteristics Limits and methods of measurement
Scope
International standard EN 55011:2009 is applicable to:
- industrial, scientific and medical (ISM) equipment. The frequency range of ISM equipment shall not exceed 400GHz;
- household equipment and similar equipment designed to generate and/or use locally radio-frequency energy;
Classification
International standard EN 55011:2009 separates all equipment in two groups– Group 1 and Group 2, each group is subdivided in two classes– class 1 and class 2.
Group 1- covers all devices that are not covered by group 2.
Group 2- covers devices that intentionally generates RF energy in frequency range 9kHz-400GHz, that is used in form electromagnetic radiation, inductive coupling, capacitive coupling for material analysis or inspection.
Class A- covers devices for usage in all establishments other than domestic and that are not directly connected to a low voltage power supply network, which supplies domestic environment.
Class B- covers devices for usage in domestic establishments that are directly connected to a low voltage power supply network, which supplies domestic environment.
If class A requirements are applied, then following or similar warning shall be included in the instructions for use:
Warning
This is a class A product. In a domestic environment this product may cause radio interference in which case the user may be required to take adequate measures. |
Examples
Group 1– Medical, scientific, laboratory, industrial electro heating, industrial process measurement and control, semiconductor manufacturing equipment, machine tools, Industrial induction heating equipment that do not exceed 9kHz.
Group 2– Dielectric heating equipment, microwave ovens, medical equipment, electric welding equipment, demonstration models for education and training, induction heating equipment that exceeds 9 kHz.
Requirements
Conducted emission requirements for mains ports and telecommunication ports must be met in frequency range 150kHz-30MHz.
Radiated emission requirements must be met in frequency rage 30MHz-1GHz.
